Dear Wonderful Readers,
Hello from Austin, TX! Here's a special Misseducated update from the SXSW Conference. These last few days have been a whirlwind, and I’ve been learning so much. Thank you for being so patient; I didn't have time to post on Friday (but I'll reveal the title of my next piece below!)
Going from lectures on futurism to how to land 7-figure deals as a "content creator" has been a rollercoaster of emotions. I’ve fluctuated between the existential dread of AI taking over the world and the inspiration of new ideas I want to bring to Misseducated. I’m sowing the seeds of new subprojects here at SXSW as we speak, and I can’t wait to share them with you soon!
On the phone with one of my good friends, she reminded me that it's important not to get too carried away with dystopian perspectives on the future. Instead, we must focus on what we can control and what we can take action on. And most importantly, we must know for ourselves what we believe is enough when it comes to our professional lives and our levels of success. Only then can we have a chance of being happy and building a world that's worth living in. She’s given me a lot of food for thought.
Below are some pictures of what I’ve been up to. One absolutely wild thing, not pictured, is that I've been running into many of my old coworkers from Vox Media. It's been a jarring, full-circle experience. This March 17th, I'll be celebrating three years since I quit my full-time job to become a writer and an author. In many ways, I feel like my new career is only just starting. Yet, seeing my old coworkers has forced me to reflect on just how far I've come in three years. I've become an author. This blog has grown to 500+ subscribers. And just last month, I had my first quote in a major publication, Vogue Magazine. And the best part, in my opinion, is that there's no full-time job for me in sight! Lol, no offense, Vox people. I liked the people at Vox, just not my old job.
As promised, I’ll let you in on a little secret. My next piece, which I hope will be published this Friday, is called “How To Kill A Crush." It’s a follow-on from last week’s piece, “Toothpicks,” and I can't wait to share it with you soon!
Thank you so much to all my friends and readers who have made my trip to Austin possible. You know who you are, and I am so grateful.
I hope you have a great week and that you challenge yourself to be shamelessly sexy in some way, even for a second.
Sending love,
Tash
