Introduction 🎬
I’ve got something very exciting to share. I’ve been invited to take part in a special experiment which involves pleasuring myself for science! I feel like my life purpose is finally crystallizing: running ridiculous, spicy, pseudo-scientific “analyses” so I can be a data nerd for fun and then write about it. The key question I’ve wanted to answer ever since I heard about this is:
What type of orgasms do I have? 🧐
A couple of months ago, Anna Lee reached out to me. She’s the co-founder, CEO, and lead engineer of Lioness, a smart sex toy company. I interviewed Anna on my podcast, Misseducated, about three years ago, back when I was in the era of cutting up my episodes into smaller conversations for no reason. This was the first time I ever talked publicly about female orgasms, and you can listen to my conversation with Anna here, here, and here. Luckily, I’ve become less prudish since then.
The Lioness is a sex toy with a bunch of sensors in it. It works by recording your involuntary pelvic floor contractions. You record a “Live Session” by pairing it as a Bluetooth device with your phone. Then you “flick the bean,” as Anna likes to say. Once you finish the session, you add some tags and highlight your orgasm, which I totally do because this is when my inner data girlie gets real nerdy. If I don’t measure it, I can’t analyze it!
And, voila. Here you can see the sessions I’ve recorded so far, with my orgasms highlighted in purple:
Scientific Background 📚
Anna and her team have found that there are three types of female orgasm: the wave, the volcano, and the avalanche. Here’s how they describe the types in Refinery29:
The Wave 🌊
The wave, which was found to be the most common type, occurred when people experienced “undulations or successive contractions of tension and release.” Nearly half of the participants recorded 'wave' orgasms.
The Volcano 🌋
A volcano orgasm, as the name suggests, is more ‘explosive’ than the steady build-up of a wave, with a lower pelvic floor tension, which then can more suddenly tense and release at the point of orgasm. These were the least common kind of orgasm, with only eleven participants shown to have experienced these movements.
The Avalanche 🏔️
And finally, the avalanche orgasm is one that has a higher pelvic floor tension which then lowers during climax — but not in an anti-climatic way if that's what you're thinking. Seventeen people were found to have experienced this kind of orgasm.
Drum roll, please 🥁. Years later, I have finally gotten ahold of my own Lioness! And I’ve been so inspired by Anna’s videos that I’ve decided to “do it for science” as well. If you think that I’m the only female in the world putting my orgasm data out there, you’d be wrong. Of course, I’m standing on her shoulders. Anna has gone viral on TikTok too many times to count explaining the graphs of her orgasms.
So, let’s dissect my orgasm data together to try to figure out what I like and what type of orgasm I have.
Analysis 📊
Orgasm #1
This was the first orgasm I recorded in the app. And, lol, you get to read the secrets of the journal entry I wrote to myself in the app (not embarrassing at all 😂 ). Obviously, I’m still thinking about Luís, who you can read more about here, here, and here (he’s Specimen 6). Oh, and here.
Of course, I had to try the Lioness again about 5 minutes later, this time recording what I was thinking about when I was flicking the bean in more detail to expand my categories.
Orgasm #2
Basically, I used the Lioness to record my pelvic floor contractions while I was flicking the bean with The Rechargeable Magic Wand, which was rated the #1 Sex Toy by the New York Times and which I am lucky enough to own. I thanked my ex-boyfriend for buying one for me about four years ago in this TikTok. I like the lowest green setting, which does like two short pulses and then one long pulse. Like clockwork 🕰️ 😂.
Orgasm #3
A couple of weeks later, I’m back at it and a new guy has entered the picture: August. I’m relieved to finally have come up with a name for him. And again, sorry for the full-frontal honesty with this one. Him eating me out is kind of self-explanatory, but as many of you know, I’m in my baby fever era. I’ve previously shared about this in the categories of porn I like to watch and why, so the preference for cream pies holds up, I guess 😂.
Orgasm #4
Seems like we’ve discovered a trend in what I like, and this time it only took me 1.5 minutes of flicking the bean to reach an orgasm. Pretty interesting. What’s even more interesting, hilarious, and awesome is that I can also measure how long my orgasm was. This same one, Orgasm #4, which only took me 2 minutes to reach, lasted 18.9 seconds long. That’s a great ROI in terms of my time, I’d say 🤭:
Conclusion 💡
Longer and multiple orgasms are perhaps the biggest advantage of being a female in this challenging, taxing world. It’s too bad we don’t talk about our orgasm length more publicly because it’s one of the most obvious ways in which females are superior to males (sucks for them).
