I contacted a close friend from high school that has published several, Pulitzer Prize and all. We had a nice chat, I told her I was thinking of writing a book. This was about 15 years ago. She even shared her agent. Few years later I asked a second question, like what kept her motivated. She ghosted me! I was so mad and told myself- I don’t need her! I can do this by myself. And, here I am 80,000 words and going strong- because I was really mad! 🦕
Tash, this has been hanging out in my inbox unread until today. I'm in a clean-up mode and I'm glad I read it because it has given me a new perspective on anger. As your narrator says, we were shamed for our anger as children and as women. Anger was an "unacceptable" emotion in my childhood home and in my marriage (where it was physically dangerous) So to reframe anger as a postiive emotion takes some careful and thougtful work. I love that it is one of my alerts to danger. Thanks so much for this piece.
Yay! You're so welcome, and thank you for reading Chery!! I hope you're able to find your anger, pay attention to it and channel it these days. Or even better, UnMute it! Sending love <3
I loved this part at the end “ whenever I cross the chasm from sadness, rejection, and pain into anger, that’s when I know I’ll be more than okay. I bounce back better, even”
Been there! That’s the anger of I know I can do better and I don’t wanna feel like shit anymore… so I work even harder on my goals.
Brb looking for anger real quick
😝
